MANAGING THE FIRST AND ONLY VERNAL POOL PRESERVE IN BAJA CALIFORNIA

Jardín Botánico San Quintín S.A. purchased over 1,000 acres of vernal pools on Colonet Mesa to protect the plants and animals in perpetuity. Pinecrest is collaborating with JBSQ and Mexican scientists to prepare a management plan for the network of preserves. Some of these vernal pools had already been bulldozed, and adjacent land is being bulldozed for tomato and strawberry farms at an alarming rate.
